Osmo Nano: Resurrecting The Modular Action Camera

Action cameras are popular nowadays for all sorts of filming, from family activities to extreme sports, from diving to drone footage. These little cameras are extremely versatile and used by many. DJI is one of the well known action camera manufacturers with their Osmo Action line. The DJI action 2, released in October 2021, was beloved by many for its modularity. Being able to separate the camera module and have a small footprint POV camera. Although it comes with inconveniences, being able to easily hide the camera or use it in weight sensitive situations. The Osmo Nano is the long awaited successor to the Action 2, we’ll go over how it stacks up compared to the other standard offerings, specs and why the Osmo Nano might be right for you.

Predecessor and Competition

The only real predecessor to the Osmo nano is the Action 2. Let’s compare the two. The Action 2 was a square format module, whereas the Osmo nano is taking the “pill” style introduced by Insta360 with the GO. The Square format was liked because of the ease of mounting in different orientations, the pill format is easier to hide and easier to mount on surfaces.

The video quality on the Osmo nano is a big step forward in video quality, bringing 10bit video in addition to the flat profile D-Log M, making color grading more flexible. Also, the bitrate is higher than the Action 2.

Compared to the other current action cameras (GoPro 13, DJI Action 5 Pro and the DJI Osmo 360), the Nano is lacking 8k recording and is lacking in battery life.

Is the Nano for you?

The Osmo Nano is an action camera for those who want a small form factor camera that isn’t overly compromised. It offers great video quality with the best versatility on the market. If you want an action camera but don’t want the bulk that comes with a GoPro or DJI Action full sized action camera.

In short, the Osmo Nano isn’t just about being small—it’s about being smart. For travelers,
vloggers, and anyone who values discretion and portability without sacrificing professional
results, this camera could be the perfect creative companion. If you’ve been waiting for a worthy successor to the Action 2, the Osmo Nano delivers a confident and capable evolution of DJI’s modular vision.
